Migros Eastern Switzerland supplies 120 supermarkets from Graubünden to Schaffhausen with fresh products every day – and is constantly working to reduce CO2 emissions from these transports. Various drive technologies – from biodiesel and biogas to green hydrogen – are being used for this purpose. The next important step in this decarbonization strategy will be two new IVECO S-eWay Fuel Cell hydrogen semi-trailers. They complement the two hydrogen trucks that Migros Eastern Switzerland has been operating since 2020. With this drive system, a fuel cell in the vehicle converts hydrogen from the tank and oxygen from the air into electrical power.
“With the IVECO S-eWay Fuel Cell, we are testing a key technology for the emission-free heavy-duty transport of tomorrow in Switzerland. The collaboration with strong regional partners and the use in real-life delivery operations are providing us with valuable insights for future series production. The new hydrogen drive was developed by our sister company FPT in Arbon – a strong sign of Swiss technological expertise within the IVECO Group,” says Domenico Nastasi, Managing Director of IVECO (Switzerland) AG.
